Contro le onde arises from a recurring sensation the author experiences every time she returns to her homeland. The perception of the slow passage of time joins the narration of changed places inhabited by solitary characters, suspended protagonists of autobiographical experiences. This slowness is emphasized by the stylistic choice of the fanzine adopting the expressive form of a newspaper.

The act of screaming against the waves of the sea becomes a metaphor for the abatement of a condition not only physical, but also mental, and a state of mind such as the continuous and tormenting confrontation with the places of the past and the constant search for new goals that can calm this feeling.
The author remembers her past and perceives it differently from how she had lived it. Places and people assume a different meaning compared to what had been and every event turns out to be a rediscovered time that allows her to tell her memories from a more mature point of view.
